App is frozen or unresponsive

If Linearity freezes, crashes, or stops responding, follow these steps to resolve it — from a simple force quit through to sending a stackshot to our team.

If Linearity becomes unresponsive, freezes on launch, or stops responding while you're working, try the steps below in order.

Step 1: Force quit and reopen

  • iPhone/iPad: Swipe up from the bottom to open the app switcher, swipe Linearity off the screen, then reopen it
  • Mac: Press Command + Option + Escape, select Linearity, and click Force Quit

Step 2: Restart your device

If the app freezes again immediately, restart your device. This clears temporary memory and resolves most one-off freezes.

Step 3: Check for an app update

An update may already be available that fixes the issue. Open the App Store, go to Updates, and install any available Linearity update.

Step 4: Reinstall the app

If the problem persists:

  1. Delete Linearity from your device
  2. Reinstall it from the App Store

Your files stored in your Linearity account are not affected by reinstalling. Files stored only locally on your device will be removed — back them up first if needed.

Step 5: Send a stackshot to our team

If the app freezes consistently and none of the above helped, a stackshot gives our developers the information needed to identify the cause. See How to Create and Send a Stackshot for instructions.

When contacting support, please also include:

  • Your device model and iOS/macOS version
  • Which screen or action triggers the freeze
  • Whether it happens every time or intermittently
